Abstract
|
|
|
1. Clinical observations and brief reviews are presented on 114 thoracic injury cases, who were admitted to the Division of Chest Surgery, Seoul National University Hospital, during the past six and half years period, from February 1961 to July 1967.
2. Among 114 patients, 35 had penetrating injuries, whereas 59 were from nonpenetrating injuries.
3. The principles of thearpy were early and rapid re-expansion of the lungs by the method of repeated aspiration and closed thoracotomy, but open thoracotomy had to be done on 32 cases.
4. The overall mortality was 3.5 percent(4 cases), 3 cases were from penetrating injuries and 1 case from nonpenetrating injury.
